Reducing crime

The Government has produced advice on crime prevention and community safety which is available from your local council, police station and Neighbourhood Watch group.

Neighbourhood Watch

Neighbourhood Watch is one of the largest crime prevention initiatives. Anyone can get involved in a Neighbourhood Watch scheme. Schemes allow local people to help the police cut crime. They also encourage people to be good neighbours and bring communities closer together.

Each scheme is led by a volunteer co-ordinator who gets their neighbours together to discuss how they can make their neighbourhood a safer place to live. They keep in close touch with local police to share information and advice.

You can find out more about how to get involved on the Home Office Neighbourhood Watch website.

You can also contact your local police station. You will find the address and telephone number in the phone book. You can also visit the National Neighbourhood Watch Association website.
